The 245T comes home! 200 1982

Also known as the "Before" pictures...

Hmm 1982 is way down that "year" scroll list. This car is old enough to vote!
Being a Volvo wagon, I'm certain it would vote Democratic.

In any case, it made its maiden voyage on the rainiest day of the year with little trouble. It does kinda sound like a rolling bucket of bolts.
I think every single rubber thing in the car is shot. Oddly, it drives straight and true with no shake in the wheel whatsoever. Steering does feel very heavy though. Not sure how much is due to the visibly bad strut mounts.

That's not a quarter standing on the hood, that's a raindrop close to the camera!
The tiny dent below the grille is just about the only body damage on the car. The electricals all worked even! OK, no license plate lights....

The blue paint is really really shot. But the metal is fine- and underneath, this car looks better than most 1992's I've seen. 100% solid. Gotta love the Texas sun. The last 245T I saw, was a 1983 in 1999, and we had to tell the guy to junk it. It was rusted up to the center driveshaft bearing... the floors were about split in half across the width of the car. A real shame. This one is just in remarkable shape underneath. I'm very impressed.

The windows got a little fogged up on the trip back. I decided I had to pull the fuse for the heater fan. It was like driving with a car alarm going off in the car, and these don't actually go "OFF" as you know. WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP. That's getting fixed first- actually a whole mess of interior problems at one time. The dashboard is RUINED from the sun- not split, more like... dry lake bed! The ignition switch is broken, and you need the key to unlock the wheel, then a screwdriver to start the car. And of course the fan. Also, it has a nasty factory bottom-mount stereo which has got to go, and all the gauge trim is missing or broken. I didn't know the 3-gauge panel even separated like this one is. Weird but I do have most of what I need. The darn clock even keeps time!!!
If it ever stops raining, I'm going to get a lot of work done on this baby!
