How much difference do strut braces make in performance/handling? 200 1980

I've never considered adding any performance options on my stock 1980 245, but I have the opportunity to buy some strut braces, the kind found on the GT's, going from the strut housing to the firewall on eitherside of the engine. It seems like the handling improvement would be negligible. Am I wrong? What kind of advantages would there be to adding them to my wagon? Are there any other or additional options I should consider to improve the handling and rigidity of my ride? Is it possible to make my own braces? Has anyone done that?
