caulking around sunroof 700

When I bought my 740 gl wagon the previous owner had sealed the sun roof shut with caulk. They said that the body shop could not figure out why it was leaking.I think that I can find the leak, but first I have to remove the caulk that was applied to the outside of the sunroof.
Does any one have a clue towards its removal? I tried picking and scraping, but that seemed to put the paint at risk. I also have to remove it from the "fuzzy seal".
Any thoughts?
