Reviving the defrost 140-160 1973

Punching the defrost button on my 145 unfortunately does not result in any air blowing through the vent under the windshield. This has made for a couple of hairy trips during our recent bout of freezing rain.

What is the likely culprit? The regular fan setting works fine.
