Hi again,
I have this clunk which is getting louder and annoying esp when everything else with the car is in good shape. It happens during deceleration and I feel it's related to my auto box downshifting (ZF22). I find it difficult to tell though whether it's occurs with 3-2 or 2-1. Sometimes it's one or two clunk as I brake the car to a stop. If I just sort of coast to a stop with light pressure on the brakes I can sortof get away with it. No asso vibration or other noises. If it wants to do the 2 clunk the first one is louder and the second one a slight clunk with a metallic sound to it. Occasionaly with the clunk I feel as if something (? driveline/rear suspension) slamming forward. Center bearing replaced bout 2 yrs ago for diff reasons. I have checked my exhaust and it seems fine. Also made sure there was no loose jack/tyre etc in my boot.
After reading the archives and FAQ these are what have been replaced over the past 6 months with no success
- U-joints (two)
- rear suspension bushings inc the shocks
Been told by my mechanic tranny mount OK but one motor mount a bit squashed. ATF fluid clean and recently changed (dino ATF)
I'm at a loss now. The workshop says it might be my tranny or there's wear in the "gears / bearings" in the rear axle. I'm reluctant of accepting their offer of rebuilding my ZF or my differential before I seek the advice form the brickboard. Any opinions much appreciated.
