I have a 1990 240DL. My car was idling fine until yesterday when I stoped at a store and when I got in to turn the engine over - it wouldn't start. It cranked a few times but nothing. I waited said a prayer and it turned over. then, as I was pulling out of the parking lot, it felt like is was going to kick off. The tach droped low and I really had to step on the gas hard to keep it going. Then it ran fine. The tank was half full so I took it to the gas station - filled it up and It died again, this time at idle. I cranked it and nothing. So I disconnected the AMM - It turned over on the first try. While the engine was on,I plugged the AMM back in and it ran fine. This happened twice again with me following the same resolution. My question is this. If I plug the AMM back in and it is really "bad" why doesn't the engine die? Could there be some poor fuel delivery problem that is being commpensated for when the AMM is unplugged? Like maybe the FPR is going or main fuel pump. I wonder if it's not the AMM since the car doesn't die when the AMM is plugged back in. Also, when I limped home last night, I shut the car off, reconnected the AMM and the car started up fine. It was running fine at high speeds the problems were only at idle and very low speeds. Anyone experience anything like this? By the way, within the last year I did a complete tuneup and a day or two before this trouble started I replaced the wires with the Magnacore 8.5mm.
