low hum coming from intake 700 1992

I have noticed a low hum coming from my air breather. I traced it back to a hose which runs from the breather to a thing-a-magig under the intake manifold(a type of switch of some kind). This has a hose going back to the top of the intake. the hum is during idle, but it doesn't seem to affect the engine performance. This hum came after a short road trip up I95(approx. 150 mi)at around 3400 rpms (80mph). is a switch about to fail or is this normal?
