The original problem was that the OD would not work
I had repaired the OD solenoid wiring and the solenoid. I can hear it cycle at the transmission when the switch is turned on/off so I know that it is working.
After getting some advice to this problem I decided to replace the kick-down cable. It really didn't seem bad when I removed it but I replaced it anyway.
The replacement was cut and dry for the most part. I got it attached inside the trans. and I can hear the lever in the trans. bottom out when I cycle the cable at the throttle end. I have adjusted it to where it will just bottom out when the throttle is on the throttle stop.
But now......well when I first took it out after refilling the fluid it seemed to shift normally except still no OD. OK it didn't fix the original problem....I can live with that.....I have for the past year. But when I drove it across town it started to not down shift when I slowed down....I had to do it manually.
Now this morning, 5:30am 60 degrees, it wouldn't get out of first. I needed to get to work so I pulled into a parking lot and removed the shift cable from the throttle and just let it hang. I'm not really sure if that changed anything or the trans just warmed up but now it will change gears if I do it manually.
It still will not down shift on its own...I have to put it in 1st. Even at a full stop.
The shift cable adjustment seems right....I can still hear it bottom out in the trans when I pull on it and release it.
I used Mercron/DextronIII fluid and I rechecked the level when this happened this morning.
Update: 4/29/03 Completely disconnected the shift cable and now will shift manually after a short warm-up. I haven't quite figured out the effects yet.
I'm wondering if the gasket that I had to cut out for the filter spacer might be restricting the fluid flow.....also it seems that maybe the trans is getting hot because now the gauge reading is showing higher than normal.
Did I screw something up?
Is this just a coincidence?
Will a flush help?
Should I lay down the big bucks for the Cross Country and be done with it?
Any help will be appreciated.
