After reassembling a new prepump and inserting it into the fuel tank, the new sock came off and fell in. I would have tried fishing it out, and thus avoiding this embarrassing post, but I couldn't see it anywhere in the tank. The old one was not an option, it was black and was damaged during removal. So, I put the prepump/sender assembly back in without the sock. Are there any consequences that will happen as a result of my goof up. Should I buy a new sock?
Also, the new sending unit rubber gasket was slightly larger than the one I took out and made reinstalling the ring very difficult. I wound up re-using the old one. The new one was an OE part that I got from FPC Groton. Is there any reason for this?
