Broken horn requires steering wheel replacement? 900 1992

Hi,

The horn on my 92 940T stopped working recently. A quick check of the fuse and basic wiring indicates no fault. Since I was due for an oil change at my dealer, I decided to ask them to investigate it.

Their diagnose: bad contacts in the horn buttons on the steering wheel.

The kicker: there's no serviceable part available other than a complete steering wheel.

The price: CAD492/USD340

It doesn't sound right that there's no other way to repair this rather small fault. But for the fact that there's ABS, I would try to disassemble the wheel myself to take a look around. (Does anyone have instructions on how to take the steering wheel out safely?)

I've already looked into other sources for the wheel. Groton doesn't carry it. I've sent a request-for-quote to Borton. My dealer has a 20% off sale coming up in two weeks which would be my last resort. Thanks for any comments.

George
