Can somebody help me solve my idle problem.
I just finished replacing a number of parts after my 83 240 broke down.
I have replaced- 1.The engine wiring harness, inspected ignition harness
2.Fuel pressure regulator (fuel in vacuum line)
3.Spark plugs, Cap, rotor
4.Removed and cleaned intake manifold, throttle body
5.All new intake gaskets
6.Removed, tested and rebuilt injectors
7.All new vacuum lines
I have gone through the Bentley Manual and I think that I have run all of the tests on the AMM, and the LH control computer. I have also tested the throttle position sensor and the idle control valve. On the first try, the car started right up. There was some white smoke out of the exhaust, but that may be because it sat for 2 months while I collected needed parts and waited for warmer temps. It ran for 5 or six minutes then quit. I checked the mixture control on the AMM, and it was set at about 800 Ohms. I adjusted it down in increments trying to get it to keep running to about 60 Ohms. It would run fine for a couple seconds between 150-700. I checked all the connectors on the harnesses and I think that they are hooked up correctly. I noticed that right when the engine quit, that the fuel injection relays- especially the fuel pump relay were "goin nuts"- they sounded like they were engaging and disengaging really fast....?
If anyone can shed light on my problem it will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
-Also, how much filth/residue is normal to see on the intake valves when you remove the manifold. Mine had a bit- looked like 157,000 miles worth?
