I installed my own cruise with a mixture of brand new and second hand parts. When I finally got it to work, it decided to work only for a day and then broke down. What had happened then was that the fastner for the pulley had fallen off and so the cruise wheel was all lose. Fixed with new fastener and it worked fine. Drove 100 miles at constant speed yesterday and bang, cruise stopped. I pulled over and it was the same thing, fixed it even better and cruise worked. Parked for the night and went to sleep. Next day, get back on the highway and it works, I brake for a truck, overtake and accelerate, I press Resume and let go of the pedal, cruise stopped working and will not operate again. I have checked the vacuum and it works fine. I have not been able to check the pump so that could have broken but I doubt it. I think I got it to work for a little while but am not sure, as it was downhill and only for a few metres before I had to stop for a junction. I am suspecting the brake light circuit. I temporarily wired the pedal switch to a permanent ground and not to the brake light switch but that did not work, perhaps it would not. Can someone confirm this. For various reasons when I built the system I did not run vaccum to the switches so there is only one pipe from pump to servo and I did not wire a swtich for the clutch. As I said, it worked for 100 miles so it seems to me the system should be fine. I have checked the fuse and the switch gets power from the fuse box. I need ideas!!
