84 Engine vs 87 Engine 200 1987

I have two 240 DL wagons one is '84 one is '87. What I planned on doing was to continue to run the '87 and rebuild the '84 engine and trans over the winter and swap them in in the spring. Is this feasible? Should I swap the engine/trans from the '84 and EFI components from the '87.
