Remember my ignition problem with the best way to get the car to run was to pull the coil wire from the distributor cap and watch it jump? Well that still is the best way for smooth running, but after another new cap, rotor and coil wire it at least starts a little better. I think I'll go the rest of the way and replace the wires and plugs. I can't believe I only get 6 months out of this stuff! I still feel there's some thing wrong but I'm stumped.
One bugger that has been annoying me is that ballast resistor. What the heck does it really do? I measure 12v on the connections away from the coil and 8.9v on the coil side and also at the coil + terminal. I have another old one that I tried but that didn't fix my ignition problem but I can't find much info about this device.
I still leave my ignition question open to anyone rearding great starting and running when coil wire is pulled but left near center post on cap.
Any and all help advice gratefully accepted, I'm working on three weeks without the trust 164!
