AW70L tranny 700

I was having a look to see what type of tranny I have in my 88 740, B230F and it has the 03 - 70L which should have the lockup, but it doesn't if u know what I mean. Like it doesn't ever drop revs when u are doing between the speeds that it is supposed to engage. What am I suppposed to feel when it does engage and what is it suppossed to do. At what road speed and engine will I know that it is functioning? And is there anyway that I can check to see if it is functioning or not????
