Tailgate Shocks in a 240 Wagon 200

My shokes hold up the back wagon door but do not seem to provide enough resistance when shuting the door. This is not a problem when I close the door since I am careful but when my wife or kids close the door it comes down so hard it sounds like the glass will break. Since most folks replace the shocks due to not holding up back door, I would appreciate if hearing if new shocks will prevent the door closing too fast. Thanks!
