Hello all,
Well, I knew this was bound to happen some day...my transmission is slipping, badly! I want to post the symptoms here so the experts can tell me if it is something fixable(cheaply) or a problem that costs more than the car. Ok...
Especially worse when the car hasn't been driven in a few hours:
-Going from Park to Drive or Reverse, there is a few seconds where the car isn't in gear
-While in drive, accelerating causes the trans to slip out of 1st and then when it catches I am lurched forward. I think this is a slip?
-When the car is Shifting between gears there are moments where the car is not in gear and the engine revs and then gradually regains drive power.
-If I break faster than a slow stop, the car will seem to be in neutral and then suddenly lurch against my brakes when I have come to a stop. This is not fun when I need to stop short and then accelerate again.
-The longer I drive the better the car behaves but still symptoms never dissapear.
I have a 740GL with auto transmission and standard engine. 220,000 miles...the trans fluid seems clean on the dip stick and is appropriate level. I am a college student so I don't have $$$ for expensive transmission rebuilds, etc... I read in the FAQ that this could be bad fluid tranfer in the trans??? Please let me know what you think, Thanks everyone!
