Brake Bleeding - two versions - who is right? 200 90

I have read two different versions about one aspect of how to bleed the brakes on a Volvo - perhaps all non ABS cars. Steps number 2) and 3) are reversed. Are they both correct?

The first version says to 1) put the vinyl tube in brake fluid 2) pump the pedal a few times and then hold pedal down 3) open the bleeder valve to allow the trapped air out 4) close the bleeder valve 5) repeat steps 1 thru 4 until system is free of air. This is the version I read the most.

The second version says 1) to put the vinyl tube in brake fluid 2) open the bleeder valve 3) pump the pedal a few times and then hold the pedal down 4) then close the bleeder screw after the air has gone out 5) repeat steps 1 thru 4 until system is free of air.

This has got me curious. Thank you, Bruce.
