Was looking at the owner's book for my (now long gone) '84 244 and in the back, in the "specifications" section, it lists the B23F as having a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and 111hp in manual tranny configuration, and 10.3:1 compression and 114hp in autobox configuration. Torque is the same, but on the autobox cars it peaks at 3500rpm vs. 2750rpm w/manual tranny.
Scratching my head trying to figure out why Volvo would do this. I guess moving the torque higher up in the powerband on the autbox cars has to do with a difference in gearing. But why 3 more horsepower on the auto?
This is even stranger when you consider that the auto cars (at least in non-turbo dressing) are slugs compared to the sticks.
