hi, i don't mean to waste anyone's time, but my '87 244 has some peculiar problems. it is my first car, i know some stuff about cars, but i really only know about american cars. well, let's get down to describing the problems. first of all, it smells like it is running rich, (the exhaust smells of gasoline) but it has the lh jetronic 2.2, i'd know what to do with a carb, but i have no clue what to do with that. Another problem that may be related to that is that the car occasionally stutters, and seems to lose it's idle. Or it vibrates heavily and will not drive faster than 5 mph until i restart it. I think this might be a problem with the timing, or the ignition, or the fuel injection, or even the spark plugs, but i don't know how to go about checking on these things, so help or clarification would be great. Also it used to have a tendency not to start unless i popped the high beams, which i thought was a low battery, but it now it only happens like every 20th time i start the car, is it possible that it's an odd glitch? speaking of electrical glitches, could somebody tell me how to get to the wiring that goes to the tail lights? because the left brakelight was out, i did run a length of wire over from the right as a temporary solution. But that isn't going to last, i need to make a permanent fix. Ah yes, the heated seats, the little lights on the switches do not come on when i depress them, is this a sign of burned out bulbs or no heated seats? i got the front brakes replaced and i am going to get the rears replaced soon. I did get the master cylinder replaced with the front. however now the brakes are very soft again, is this a low brake fluid thing, is it caused by the rear brakes still being bad, or might i have a problem with the vacuum pump? i know i have tons of questions, and i know you must really hate newbies asking every silly question that you all assume is common knowledge, but i really need some help. despite all the problems i really do like the car and i'd love to try and fix it up and make it run a little better, e-mail me, or post some answers please, and thanks for your time
