electrical 200 87

I can use all the help I can get on a couple of strange electrical problems. General info: 87 240Dl automatic wagon.

#1 Speedometer. After first startup(usually morning), the speedometer works fine. However, after about 3 minutes or when trani shifts into third gear, the needle zero's out. The speedometer will not work again until the next morning or occasionally in the evenings after it's been parked all day. This has been going on for years. Odometer has not worked for the past 7 years.

#2 Transmisson. Travel to expressway (car is shifting fine) at about 35 MPH tops. Once I enter the expressway and maintain highway speed the transmission fails to make the final gear change. After about 8 miles I can usually get it to shift if I press the overdrive button. I have replaced the overdrive relay and tested the solenoid on the transmission at 12v. The solenoid pops open/closed when powered.

#3 Fuel and temperature gauge would indicate a less than actual reading, but this has not occured in a while. At one time I would experience the low gauge reading plus the battery light flashing on the dash.

Could the semi bare wires at the rear door hinges be a cause for the above?

Car runs great except for the tempermental and occasional hard shifting. I've had the car since 87. Hope someone has some insight.

Thanks in advance!
