What happened to reverse? 200 1982

My '82 244t w/ auto transmission has started slipping or failing to engage in reverse, particularly when trying to back uphill. Fluid has been changed, but the problem persists. There don't seem to be any problems with any forward gears. The OD recently stopped working, but this turned out to be a wiring problem. However, it seemed that this reverse problem was worse when the OD was not working correctly. Any ideas?
