update on my 1183 labor costs 200 87

Hello fellow brick owners,

A couple weeks ago I was complaining about the $1183 worth of labor costs to change out my motor mounts, bushings front and rear, and replace my front struts, balljoints and left tierod end. This quote was for labor only. Well after some motivation from you guys I decided I was pissed off enough to DO IT MYSELF! The last week I've been getting the necessary tooling to accomplish my project. Through JC Whitney I purchased a ball joint and tierod removing tool, a 4 ton bottle jack, and a set of spring compressors total cost $45. Today I'm picking up a 12 ton hydrolic press at Habor Freight cost app. $120. The tools cost so little that I decided to pick up some overload springs through IPD something I needed since the car has some serious tail drag when loaded down.

Okay I've got all the goodes so know I'm committed. Last night I decided to do the motor mounts. After reading the FAQ about 10 times. I knew exactly how to attack the problem. Looking at the engine I noticed the whole engine was resting on the steering rack! The drivers side was a little difficult tring to get a 1/2 inch rachet in there to remove that top nut was fruitless. Thankfully the 3/8 rachet was able to loosen the nut. It turns out both mounts where broken into two pieces! Lining up the new mounts was also tricky, but it finally all came together. The whole job took me 3 hours and the driving experience is much better. It was really an easy job and I'm stoked about accomplishing it on my own (of course I most likly would have never done it with out the motivation from my fellow brick owners.)

Saturday is the day part two occurs. I've recruted a friend to become educated with me. The bushings, balljoints, struts, springs and tierod ends will be installed. I've been reading FAQs, Bentleys, and Chilton's. Thanks for all your help and motivation. I'll keep you posted.

Scott
