Okay, here's the situation:
I'm about to put the ol' winter beater back on the road. It's seen <50 miles since last May. The oil was changed shortly before that.
Why are oil change requirements set to time or mileage? What cause oil to 'wear out' by just sitting in a crankcase?
Should I change the oil or not? Don't forget that I'm talking about a really rusty '85 245DL with amazingly low compression for a car that still runs. At 270k and almost no floors, should I even EVER bother to change the oil anymore?
Inquiring minds want to know.
