Hi everyone, I really need some help with this. Abour 2 months ago, my check engine light came on. I read the codes and it turns out it was diagnostic code 1-4-3 in the ingnition system socket. My Chilton manual says to disconnect the sensor, jump the 2 wires and check the resistance/continuity of the sensor circuit at the computer. I did it and the circuit checked out OK. In that case, my manual tells me to replace the sensor, which I did with an original Bosch part which I torqued properly.
Last week, guess what? My check engine light comes on again and it's the same error code. My manual says this code lights the Check engine lamp after something like 96 consecutive starts without a signal.
I have yet to try tapping the block near the sensor and look to see if the timing retards. I'm assuming it won't (hence the absent signal error code) and that the engine is running in "safe" mode, with the timing retarded by about 12 degrees. I haven't noticed a loss in "performance" (being a normally aspirated engine, performance isn't a word I associate with my car). I've never driven a badly timed car but I'm assuming I should feel a difference.
I'm at a loss to understand this and your help is much appreciated.
