When I pull a transmission in a 1989-up 240, I always remove the CPS (Crank Position Sensor) and bracket from the block as a unit; and then remove the CPS from the bracket on the bench.
Sometimes that requires soaking in penetrating oil.
Sometimes the CPS is destroyed in the removal attempt as it’s frozen to the bracket.
As in this pic – the plastic housing stayed in the bracket and had to be ground out.
I’ve broken a few brackets trying to replace CPS units – which then requires removal of the transmission.
I assemble new units with a light coating of moly anti-seize
