142 front seat upholstery 140-160

Quick question: How do I remove the front upper seat covers from the frame on a 1968 142? I got new foam and covers but can't figure out how to remove the upper originals. The seam is at the bottom of the back of the seat, and looks to have some sort of release bar on the outer side, but it doesn't do much when released.

Any tips?
