First Post! 240 wagon engine swap 200

Hello, 240 enthusiasts. In the past month, I’ve purchased two 240 wagons for a total of $1000. Thanks craigslist.

The first, a 1987 240 dl, has some very serious rust that needs to be repaired before its drivable, most notably, a disturbing lack of rockers. However, the engine, transmission, and all common electrical failures work great.

The second is a 1992 240 with a body that’s in great shape, but has a bad gauge cluster, and a terrible engine knock.

I realize this is a pretty broad question, but what compatibility issues would I have swapping the engine and transmission from the 87 into the 92? This is my first Volvo, and my first car project. Several of my gearhead friends will be helping me with this, so mostly I’m looking for Volvo specific info on what systems are cross compatible. Any advice is appreciated though.

Some background:
Both are automatic transmission.
Both have viscous clutch fan off the coolant pump, no electric fan.
The jetronic ecu is 0 280 000 951 on the 92, and 0 280 000 544 on the 87.
The ignition control module on the 92 is 1346107. I’m not sure what model is in the 87.

Thanks in advance!
