Hello All:
1967 Volvo 122S wagon. SU HS-6 carbs. We are at the end of week two of Virginia's carb issues - post fire. Wendy is at the end of her rope. I am fine, as long as Wendy does not look for another husband. Another week and that might become an issue.
When I start the car after a day of so, it fires right up and immediately dies, maybe 15 or so revs. Cranking the engine over simply uses battery but nothing doing. Here is what I have done, pretty much in order:
Removed and completely disassembled carbs.
New gaskets, new jets with new o-rings, new needle valves (pins and seats). New air filters, but of course I have not put them on yet. New fuel hoses and clamps.
Rebuilt carbs, jets centered - nice knocking sound when each piston falls. Clean as a whistle.
Checked float height, turned jets with adjuster nut all the way up to level with deck then backed down 1-1/2 turns (9 flats).
Checked plugs for fouling, etc. They seem fine. They must be firing because the car does start for a split second before it goes dormant.
Here is what I have observed:
* A week ago fuel was pooling out of the rear carb's jet into the throttle body. I am not observing anything like that now after making some adjustments to float height.
* Both floats are set exactly the same but there is a slight difference in fuel height between the front and rear float chambers. Nothing major, but a difference exist. The fuel is between 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" from the top of the chamber.
* When I remove the pistons and look down into the jets from above after trying to start the car, it seems like the level of fuel in the front carb's jet is closer to the top of the jet than the rear carb's jet is.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I am losing daylight in about three hours. Thanks in advance folks.
Cheers,
Pooch
