For the second time in twenty years of ownership of my GLT, the taillight lens has been broken on the inside corner by a car wash jockey wielding his brush too brutally. I hardly ever take the car to a wash any more but I yielded during the winter months so I could get some washing happening underneath the car as well as on top. Today I was dismayed to find the right hand lens broken on the inside and, knowing the cost of a replacement lens is about three hundred dollars, spent the rest of the day in a funk.
There must be others who are experiencing this unhappy experience. Has anyone found a way to repair the lens without replacing the whole unit? I did get a kit from ipd a few years ago but that has all gone yellow and never did do much of a job of repair.
I still have the original taillights around and was looking at them to see if I could make one good one out of two faulty ones. Unfortunately they are always kicked by the wash brush in the same place.
I will never take this car to a wash again.
