Hi everyone;
This is my first post, as I just picked up my first Volvo.
A 1993 940 wagon. It does have high mileage (368,000) But I have all service records up to just over 302,000. The org. owner was very good about all scheduled maintenance and servicing and it was all done at a Volvo dealership.
As one of the first things I like to do when I get a used car. I like to change the Engine Oil, Trany Oil, + Rear lube. Then I know for sure when it was done last.
The Car runs great and the trany seems to shift fine, but I don't like the smell of the oil. I have spend a few good days on the forum looking over all the info. What a Great site!!
A few questions I have:
1. What are your thoughts on putting in Full synthetic Oils in a high mileage Car? I have heard some say NO, and some say go with a Hybrid synthetic.
2. Do you think maybe Full synthetic in some areas and Hybrid in others?
3. Good time to install a real Transmission Filter at this point. Any
recommendations?
4. What about another Transmission cooler? I have always installed one if a Car only had the one, I find having another external cooler can prolong Transmission life with much better cooling. I have not seen this talked about, during my searches on this site. Any thoughts?
Although I have the factory maintenance book. I don't know when or if any major work was done to the engine or trans.
I must say, What a beautiful Car this is!!! The Ride and Comfort is in another league compared to the older Mopars I am used to. I'm no longer a Mopar man, I have been bitten good by the Volvo Bug. I can't wait for my first long trip!!
Thanks for any thoughts on this!
