Progressive signal failure (?) 200

'88 240 DL
157K mi

Driver' side,
parking light not working,
predominant signal failure (rapid blinking when not working).
---
Cleaned the ground contact.
Both bulbs confirmed good.

Bulb failure light?
So is the bulb failure warning light not coming on because there is/was some current moving through the bulb(s) but not enough to turn them on?
------
I traced the front light assembly failures to the cable connector.
I fiddled with the harness connector until everything worked.

While sitting at a stop light with the left signal on I heard a buzzing/ratcheting sound coming from the drivers side under the dash.
The sound diminished until it faded out and I lost ALL signals. The parking lights all around are fine.

I first thought it was the flasher relay but the hazards still work.

I guess this moves me to the turn signal stem switch (?). That would be in the direction the ratcheting noise came from.

Any speculations on if this is a result of the shorting in the harness connector or just a coincidental?

Thanks
