Driveshaft yoke phase/ alignment - in plane or? 200

I'm trying to find a vibration in my 91 244. More on that in a separate message.

In checking the driveshaft I saw that the driveshaft yokes (the farthest forward and farthest rearward) were perpendicular to each other.

This is how I thought they were supposed to be and how I've always done them. I call this "in phase".

But just in case I checked shop manuals: Bentley and Haynes show them to in the same plane. Haynes shows a picture w/ an X through a perpendicular arrangement.

Back at the driveshaft I saw that the stamped (etched?) factory arrows were lined up as they should be.

Are the manuals wrong or am I missing something?
