240 sedan Brake light question - white socket (bulb holder) 200 1985

(moved from RWD all)

Hi all,

My troublesome 1985 240 is almost entirely resurrected from the dead. The only issue keeping me away from the inspection station is the bonkers tail light behavior.

The main offender is that when the brakes are applied, the right-hand tail light (the one above the brake light) goes out. Oh, and the RH brake light doesn't work. Also, the tail-light goes out regardless of whether the brake light socket is in place.

I found a few comments on other, inferior, forums, that mention that the RH brake light socket should be white, rather than black. Mine is black. Why should that make a difference? Anyone know what electrical characteristic of the black socket would prevent my lights from working? I need to bodge something up, I suspect that obtaining the correct socket maybe difficult.

Thanks!
