All, I hope you can give me some advice. I have a 1989 Volvo 240 that just started making a mystery squeal a couple of days ago. I know one of the alternator belts had broke so I took the car in and had all the belts changed. I piked up my car, didn't hear any noise so I thought it was good to go. I got a mile down the road, the car was now warmed up and the squealing starts. It only does it when I hit the gas. I can also put the car in neutral and rev up the engine and I get the squeaking as well. I thought the exhaust heat shield might be vibrating so I took it off and it still squeals. I also painted a line on the harmonic balancer to check that and took the car out for a long test drive. Line hasn't moved a bit so the balancer is good. Any ideas? It almost sounds like a belt squeal but the belts are brand new. I know the accessory bushings are pretty old and falling apart. You think this might be the problem?
