How I Built a Power Brake Bleeder for $1.89 - TP11405-4 Brakes Repairs and Maintenance - Units Error

Hi,

I was able to complete my home made power brake bleeder today. After attaching an air hose to my portable air tank, I was able to service my 1977 Volvo 264 GL.

The quick connect air fitting glued nicely into a spare master cylinder cap with plastic epoxy. Note however the cement eats through nitrile in moments, so be aware that gloves offer little protection from the chemical.

The (TP11405-4 Brakes Repairs and Maintenance 240, 260 1976) green book is erroneous on page 20, instruction 2, The decimal place is wrong, and the conversion should read .50-.60 psi, the decimal point was omitted and the text reads 50 - 60 psi!

I applied 60 psi to the master cylinder, and the reservoir nearly exploded. After reviewing the text and applying the correct conversion, I realized the mistake.

The system bleeds quite effectively at 10psi, and I imagine it could be done with far less, The circuit reservoir will empty in less then 20 seconds at 10 psi, so be careful.

The air fittings can be had at Home Depot.
