AMM Bellows Hose 200 1987

I wanted to post one other thing about AMM bellows hoses.

I've used lots of duct tape over the years to keep mine closed, but eventually bought a new one from FCP Groton.

The nipples on these hoses are not actually part of the hose itself, but are sort of snapped and glued into the main hose. They almost immediately begin to come apart (and leak air). You can't even get a good fit with duct tape when that happens. I used heavy duty plastic cement around the nipples, and that lasted maybe 3 months before they worked loose. The total length of time that FCP hose was on my car was less than 9 months. $17.00 or so.

I ordered a replacement from IPD. At least it has a "Volvo" stamped into the plastic and a number, but that nipple connection doesn't look a lot better. I sealed the nipples on these with cement before I installed the hose, and hopefully this will last a little longer. It cost around $35.00 or so.

Of course, donor cars sometimes yield a decent hose, but most I have found have rubbed against something and worked a hole in them. Those low holes do respond well to duct tape.

Any comments on better ideas or better hoses are welcome.

Dow
