‘89 Volvo 245 wagon,. A/T, gas, been “fixing it up” past 5 years., 205K, which is an average of just about 10k miles annually if you do the math. Over the 6 years we have had it, I put in strong heavy duty suspension parts, including new rack and pinion, heavy duty coil springs, shocks, struts, etc. , heavy duty anti-sway bars front and rear-(IPD). All the bushings in the suspension have been kept up using neoprene bushings instead of rubber ones. Top the engine has been “braced”. NEW Volvo blower (heater/a/c ) fan, new power steering pump, NEW a/c compressor and all that goes with it, converted to r134, body is close to perfect-never been in an accident, painted (original color-metallic grey) 4 years ago. New windshield, new tailgate “shocks”. Interior needs nothing-cloth seats-headliner-dash-in excellent condition, all interior is superb including cargo area in back with 3rd seat almost never used, excellent!! Retractable rear cargo cover installed! IPD Volvo rubber floor mats has well protected the carpet. Engine smooth, never leaks or burns oil, serviced every 3K miles with Delo oil and Volvo filter. Transmission never leaks and has been serviced regularly, smooth operation, quiet. Tires new Michelins, brakes always kept up. NEW 3 row all metal radiator, all hoses and belts changed regularly. Starter new, replaced 3 years ago, alternator replaced 4 years ago, battery changed 2 years ago, top of the line so to speak. Air filter replaced regularly, engine has been kept clean inside and out. Always use premium fuel, add Techron on regular schedule, few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil used occasionally . Remove spark plugs anytime and you will see they are in excellent shape even after 10k-15k+ miles. Kept in excellent tune. Cruise control works perfectly. Map pockets like new. Radio w/ cassette works great. Has never failed smog! I would say we have put in hundreds of $$$ to keep it up, not true, few thousand actually. Previous owner also kept it up-he had it 5 years-we have 1000s of $$$ of his receipts in our possession of work for him done at his local Volvo dealer, which is probably why he spent so much, BUT reward has been an excellent brick! He probably could have cut the dollars spent in ½ if he went to a good independent, which we do.
NOW, why am I telling you all this? Well, trying to come up with a fair, true reasonable value for it, considering the excellent shape and excellent care and upgrades over the years we have had it. We will never get our $$$ back, but we have enjoyed the car.
WE will pay ½ for inspection (IF we actually decide to sell it!) at ANY reputable place a potential buyer may choose. We will supply Carfax, or one can get it on their own. Will we actually sell it? Don’t know for sure-but we need opinions for selling price. We are looking at hybrids, and we might just wind up keeping the Volvo-It's been loved.
(I figure it's worth at least $1.98------:oÞ~~~) Other opinions needed, if you have time. thanks.
