Ok, so after a months-long project on my 91 740 sedan to install my audio system and other gadgets, it's coming to a close. And just in time too: We are leaving this Saturday for Portland for the IPD garage sale next saturday. Add in the other things going on right now in my life and you have a perfect storm. Not to mention the perfect blizzard snowstorm we had in Edmonton here today. What a nightmare. Anyway, long story short, I'm pretty stressed out. Also starting a new job right after I get back from "vacation".
Ok, so one of the very last thigns I have left to put together is to bolt on the driver's side seat belt. Passenger side went back together without any trouble, but tonight while trying to do it, the retractor (you know the part hanging there) was sucked all the way in and wouldn't slacken the belt so I could get it bolted to the seat. So frustrating. I tried everyting (after reading the faq section on it of course), shaking it, pulling on it in different angles, tilting it, pulling slowly, pulling fast, etc. Nothing. Why couldn't this have been the passenger side??!!
So I took apart the locking side of the unit (just took the cover off, and of course broke the little tabs they had holding it together - could use screws I suppose later on) and found the inside to be clean and with no "apparent" troubles. I fiddled with it, and decided it was the little weight thing that was the culprit. I guess that must be there so that if you rolled the car or whatever, the belts lock up. The problem with mine is that if you just tilt the assembly a few degrees from perfectly vertical it locks up and you are hosed.
For now I have removed the little weight. It just won't work otherwise.
Sigh, let me go out there again and take a few pictures. It's freezing out, but I'll go. Thanks in advance for any help.
