Tops out at 80? 200 1984

Hi all,

I have a 1984 240 GL wagon with the B23F engine and M46 4 speed with overdrive transmission. The car has 180,000+ miles.

Anyway, I took it on a long drive last weekend from San Diego, California up to Lake Tahoe and back to Oceanside. The car did not give me any problems other than the fact that I absolutely could not get it to go faster than 80 miles an hour on I-5. I tried flooring it and the engine wouldn't wind up higher than 3,000 in overdrive. I didn't try turning the overdrive off at that speed.

Funny thing is that I had to grab 3rd gear going through the mountains and it would top out at about 50 in 3rd, which is 3200 or so r/min.

If I stand on the gas in 2nd it will wind up to around 4500 but the power drops off over 3000.

I'm thinking a plugged cat (but it's only a few years old) or low fuel pressure.
