Post In-Tank pump redux, and... still some of the same symptoms, thanks Art 200 1990

One week ago I replaced my intank pump with the taller 700/900 pump that IPD sells... Also replaced the trimmings... pick up sock, connecting tube etc... Thanks to Art's and his pump page for helping me through this.

During this exercise I found several issues with the sender unit: Faulty +12V wiring at the hermetic seal(the real cause of the pump failure), and a cracked tubing elbow on top of the sender unit. I sprung for the VDO sender to avoid any quality issues... but ended up having a problem with the new sender anyway: The solder joint on the +12v ring terminal to the choke suppresor was faulty. I determined this after I installed the whole works and the pump still didnt run. On a job like this always do a continuity check and good visual inspection first. Oh Well, guess I didnt read Art's writeup close enough!

***On to my problem.*** The noise of the intank pump is new to me!! I'm not sure if it has run in the 3 years I have had the car. The car runs much much better and is not bogging down nearly as much. But every once and a while I'll get that same feeling that I had before the pump replacement: Feels like someone is pinching the fuel line, and then its gone.

Could the possibly 3 years of no intank pump have doomed the main pump?
Fuel pressure regulator has 110k miles on it according to PO records. No liquid fuel in the vacuum line.
Fuel filter to be changed as time permits.
Main fuel pump is original. ~244k
Fuel Pump Relay is new
Cap, Rotor, plugs, wires, air filter at same time of pump replacement

My rationale is that because these symptoms I'm still having are the same as but much less frequent than before the intank change, that the problem still lies within the fuel delivery system.

Should I replace the main pump??

Thanks,

Matt
