Greetings,
My '88 240DL (587,000 miles on the car / ~300,00 miles on a used auto tranny) is not shifting into 4th gear until I drive about 10-15 miles. My tach (yep, I installed a big one) shows ~4,000rpm and once the OD kicks in, rpm decreases to 3,000 at 75mph.
When the tranny is warm, I get a substantial delay when going into reverse. I have to get the rpm's up to move in reverse. I read recently that it may be due to overdrive failure (?)
At times, the orange indicator light shows faintly without pressing the button . When I press the button on my shifter to engage the OD, there is a delay in downshifting, or lately, it doesn't downshift every time.
My initial guess is the wiring and my initial guess is to rewire the entire circuit. Can I use a 14 or 12 gauge wire and re-wire myself, or is it advisable to purchase a wiring harness. Part two of my plan is to re-solder / replace the OD relay.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
