1980 240 Wagon - No Start Fuel Issues 200

Hey Guys -

I had a neighbor who has fallen on soem very hard times call me last night and ask if I could help getting his Volvo 240 Wagon running. The info he gave me over the phone was that sometimes the car will start-up after a 10 second crank and then die and will only restart after cranking for up to a full minute. He said that when he is driving down the road he loses power and the car will just die and shut off no matter what speed he is going. 10-60mph - Scary thing Im sure. Anyway he said he had the timing belt replaced and another hack mechanic changed his plugs/ fuel filter/distributor cap and some other small things and the car still runs horrible. He was saying that the distributor shaft was replaced but got cracked and they repaired it with epoxy and it has held-up fine. who knows. Im going to head over there in a few hours and checkout the basics like the fuel pump, fuel relay, AMM and the filters plus look for any vacumn leaks - Does anyone have any other suggestions. My work experience is limited to 87'-91' Volvos but I am going to assume they are similar to his 80'- I want to jump the main fuel pump. Is it the same as fuse jumping on my model/year? I think the 5 and 7 fuse. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks in advance -
