Help running down a miss 200 1987

I'm trying to trace down a miss on my 87 240. It doesn't "appear" to be electrical, but I am open to any suggestions. I havn't had a miss in the 16,000 miles I've put on the car, not even a hiccup. (204,000 miles)

Car starts fine and instantly.
idles fine, (maybe just a hair low)
Upon acceleration I get a hiccup, usually one in every gear. Out on the highway I get a hiccup every few minutes, usually under slight acceleration.

I cleaned the throttle body.
Duct taped a few pin holes in the duct work from AMM to throttle. New air filter
PVC (breather, flame trap etc) spotless--all new
Checked for vac leaks. - seems fine
Checked for bad grounds. - seems fine

Could you tell me what would be a logical sequence to check:

Fuel filter (from the looks of it, this boy is original. I had one local shop look at it and they said they wouldn't change it. too scarey looking they said. I have changed a B230 fuel filter before. That's why I took it to the shop and tried to throw money at them. Should I bite the bullet and do this first?

Fuel pressure regulator - I have a new one in a box I bought on ebay. (I don't smell gas under the hood._

AMM - What would be the best way to eliminate AMM as the culprit?

Fuel Pumps - they seem to be fine, no odd noise.

Other?

Where should I start? I've spent 2 weeks reading the archievs on issues like this. Any help you could give me would be appreciated......
