96 960 3rd brake light S90-V90 1996

Okay, so what am I missing when it comes to changing the third brake light bulb on my 96 960 wagon? To wit, I can't for the life of me get the cover to come off! Old Swedish plastic being what it is, I'm scared of breaking the cover. Any tips?
