Temp readings after bypassing compensation board 200

I have removed the compensation board in our '88 244 and bypassed it using the IPD "jumper" kit. I had expected the temp needle to behave like it does in our '85 245 (a little under 9 o'clock position), but I am spooked now because it tends to read towards the hot side. Is this normal or do I need to start looking for cooling problems?

Thank you all!
