sent the following to Volvo customer service:
Dear sirs
I have owned 9 Volvos starting with a 122s (B16B) I purchased over 40 years ago. I recently (on 12/19/07 in fact ) purchased my tenth, a new C30 that I hope I will live long enough to make into your high mileage club as I have with 4 previous models. Since I have usually done my own maintenance and am very active in various internet forums and groups, I think it is safe to say that I am more experienced that most; certainly more than some of your parts and accessory personnel.
Since it is my contention that a Volvo is not a Volvo without mud flaps, I ordered a set for the C30 yesterday from University Volvo in Charlotte, NC, a dealer with whom I have done business for over a decade and have the utmost confidence in. I picked them up today and tried to install them. Your mud flaps #30664342 and #30664346 in no way fit my car, a 2008 type 2 C30. At a list price of of over $80.00 for both pairs,I find this atrocious. They used to be a stock item - not an option.
It is bad enough to overcharge for such an item but when I find them to fit so badly, I AM P***ED OFF. You do not deserve to be in business if this is the way you treat your customers.
If I could guess at the problem, I would say that these mud flaps are for a type 1 C-30 and no one in your organization considered the fact that the underbody of a type 2 requires a different fit, There is nothing on your packaging to make an employee aware of this fact, University's parts man says he has nothing on file to indicate a difference for the type 1 and type 2,. so don't try to lay blame on him. If you don't believe me, try installing a set with these part numbers on a type 2 yourself.
While I'm here, you should review the jack points on this car. While the supplied jack operates with no complaint, I think you will find the lip where the jack is installed will become deformed if a typical floor jack or tire dealer's lift is used instead of the supplied jack. You will and should be found liable for these damages every time a C30 requires new tires. You would be wise to check it out.
On another front please review the price of the soft cargo cover, it is larceny!! This looks to be the best cover for this model as it stores out of the way nicely but $250.00 for an item that probably is produced in volume for $10.00 or less is a bit much. It is bad enough that a parts person has to go to the ends of the earth to find a price for one and I doubt that any will ever be produced or sold as you have them priced.
My C30 is a delightful automobile for its performance, handling, comfort, styling, and utility. It is a shame that it is handicapped because of Volvo's oversight. If it fails, you can only blame yourselves. Over the years I know of a dozen Volvo sold because of my recommendations. Inlight of the apparent policies at Volvo today, I may as well advise anyone to buy a Ford.
I would appreciate an answer to this complaint and when the mud flaps for the type 2 become available' YOU OWE ME A SET.
