Hey guys
I have read the whole FAQ on problems with the intermittent overdrive solenoid operation.
On my '94 940T, the orange upshift light is usually off, but at odd times begins glowing faintly, then perhaps partially, and then sometimes on altogether (in which case the solenoid is not engaged and the car will not shift to 4th.) The overdrive switch on my shifter knob has never worked since I have owned the car (50K of its 125K miles). The switch doesn't do anything, period, whether the orange upshift light is off, half on, or on all the way.
I am about 36 hours from a Christmas road trip with the wife and kiddos and would prefer not to ride around in 3rd gear.
Earlier this year I took the OD relay out and attempted to reflow the solder (not sure how good a job I did; I am not real handy with a soldering iron, and there is not much solder on that board to re-flow). But it did seem to solve the problem for a few months. Now the problem is back.
Since the switch hasn't worked in years, do you think I have a switch wiring issue, or an OD relay issue? Should I just replace the relay and see what happens?
Thanks!
