Thought i'd share this with you.
After completing my rear trailer bushing horror story i put the car back together and all was well.....accept....i had this tiny little ticking kind of rubbing, kind of squeaking noise on my drivers side. It was faint but if a rolled my window down (winter so not often) i'd hear this clicking noise. It would speed up as i did, slow down when i did, wasn't affected by braking, wasn't affected by slipping into neutral?? Did it in reverse?? I jacked the front end up and spun the wheels ....nope. I jacked the rear end up spun the wheels ...nope. I ran in gear on jacks stands..nope not a sound. Put it on the ground and drive click, click, click, click. Stumped me for days......
Finally i found it. You'd never guess???? One of the tines that hold the metal ring on my hubcap was broken. When the tire rolled the flex in the rim was just enough that the hubcap would flex out and rub on the tire. When the broken part of the cap was anywhere else in the tires rotation it sat pretty in the rim and you would never notice. But if that little broken plastic retainer part was at the bottom of the tires rotation there was just enough stress to cause the cap to bulge out for the tiniest period of time and rub against the tire. After the hundreth stop and check my car stopped at precisely the right spot and voila! I looked at my tire and I have a major groove worn into the tire.
You know when you think you know your stuff something this this rolls along....
