760T electrical problems solved, but...... 700 1987

So It turned out to be a ground screw stripped on the manifold.

However, While checking the grounds I think I grounded something that that shouldn't have been grounded. I noticed a ground coming off the engine block right around the AC compressor. So I connected it to the bracket where the yellow wire from the alternator casing connected to the bracket thinking this was a good idea. It was not. Immediately the car sputtered and died. I'm htinking I shorted out something important. The car now will not really start. I got it running yesterday sort of. It ran fine for about 5 minutes and then the idle started to surge and I lost all power while trying to accelerate. Now car will not start hot. It cranks fine and wil sputer once or twice but thats it. Yesterday I got the car running by disconnecting and reconnecting what I have come to learn is the "power stage". It was not mounted anywhere, just hanging near the battery. It was too hot for me to touch.

Questions....
What could that mysterious wire be? It messed something up. I think it may have something to to with the IAC as it is in proximity and the symptoms follow that.

I think I will run to the junkyard tomorrow and find me a new power stage. What is the interchange for these? I know there is VERY nice looking 940 sitting in the yard and maybe some other 700 series.

Thanks,
Jerry
